La seducción de lo feo

Existen imágenes, objetos, e incluso personajes (véase si no Marilyn Manson), de los cuales se nos hace difícil apartar la mirada, aún cuando la causa de esta atracción sea la misma que al tiempo nos provoca un rechazo. Esta circunstancia, que podría definirse como "la seducción de lo feo" y cuya experiencia es compartida, ha sido plasmada en más de una ocasión en el arte. Si bien es verdad que de forma global históricamente arte y belleza han ido de la mano, en el barroco se iniciará una transición hacia el feísmo, cuyos antecedentes ya encontramos en la Edad Media, que ha terminado por desembocar en la actualidad en la obra de artistas -como Bacon o Lucian Freud- cuya característica más remarcable es haber hecho de los aspectos menos agradables de la realidad la base de su arte.

Her genital area would appear to have been deliberately emphasized with the labia of the vulva carefully detailed and made clearly visible, perhaps unnaturally so, and as if she had no pubic hair. This, combined with her large breasts and the roundness of her stomach, suggests that the "subject" of the sculpture is female procreativity and nurture and the piece has long been identified as some sort of fertility idol. The fact that numerous examples like that of a female figure. All generally exhibiting the same essential characteristics - large stomachs and breasts, featureless faces, minuscule or missing feet - have been found over a broad geographical area ranging from France to Siberia.
